Survive and Thrive the COVID-19 Pandemic as a Business

As we continue to navigate COVID-19 and the way that it affects business it's time to make sure that business owners are able to make it through these trying times.

Our CEO and founder Bud Torcom hosted a webinar to discuss just that. Over the past month, Bud has had to change the way that Mazama Media does business. He has had to make some tough choices and decisions in order to keep the company afloat.

Surviving the COVID-19 pandemic

And after pivoting, changing thought processes and pushing on, it looks like things are about to turn a corner.

That is due in part to understanding how to shift a mindset. That can be tough. Here is a way to start thinking about how to change your operations.

It's the RAFT acronym.

First you need to RECOGNIZE that there is an issue:

Yep. There is an issue. COVID-19 is pushing across the globe, and it is making its presence known. And the crazy thing is, we aren’t sure just how long this could last.

That means you need to plan, and create a timeline that can endure for the potential of a shutdown for months to come.

That leads us to ACKNOWLEDGE.

This is happening. There is no magical solution. Understanding that and accepting that is key to moving forward. This is the new reality. And it’s time that we embrace it.

I know, it sounds a bit doom and gloom. But if you look at this as an opportunity… Things can change for your business.

Next up is FOCUS.

This is where we get into the meat of it. Basically, it boils down to mindset. That’s because there are things that you CAN control and things that you CAN’T.

There are so many things that you can't control:RAFT

  1. You are not able to control government shutdowns.
  2. You can’t control the virus.
  3. You can’t control the weather.
  4. You can’t control other people.

There are so many things in this world that you have no say over. So it's time to stop worrying about that, and it's time to focus on what you can control.

You CAN control your thoughts, perceptions and actions.

This is a good thing! Looking at this crazy world through this lens will allow you to take a look at your world and decide what you are able to do to help yourself.

This means as a business it's time to play some defense.

That means cutting off the fat. We have gotten so used to abundance and excess over the past few years. Yet, most of what we pay for is not necessary anymore.

Take a look at your vendors. Decide what you really need to get by. Here are some ways you can get started with doing that:

  • Talk to your landlord, see if you can get a deal on rent while your team works from home.
  • Turn off your office phones and internet if no one is working in the office.
  • No one working in the office? No need for that cleaning crew or the garbage to be picked up.

Playing defense to save moneyThere is so much you can do to cut costs at this time. And all it really takes is picking up the phone and asking those questions. There is no reason not to. What is the worst answer you will get?

“No.”

So ask the questions! Find out where you can save some money!

So now it’s time to really TRANSFORM your business.

As we talked about earlier, it's likely the effects of COVID-19 will be part of our life for months to come. So it’s time to move through this obstacle.

Keep moving forward!Moving forward through the pandemic

That is what will allow for your business to pull through this time. You will have to think differently about the world we are living in and adapt to that.

Think about it. People are staying home, so bring your goods and services to them through the power of technology. Here we talk about how to use social media strategies to go on the offense.

There are so many good tools at your fingertips to put your goods and services in front of people. Think outside the box. Don’t be afraid of ideas that may seem too crazy. During these crazy times, no idea will be too crazy! It's time to innovate!

This current climate is insane. Bottom line is nothing is the same anymore. But that is GOOD. This is an opportunity.
